CAVB President and Zone II officials Visit Late Baba Syís Family

The President of African Volleyball Confederation Dr Amr Elwani with a high power delegation paid homage to the family of late Abdoulaye Baba Sey at the family’s residence in Dakar aside of Zone II meeting.


Baba Sy was the Vice President of Confederation of African Volleyball, President of Senegal Volleyball Federation, Vice President of Senegal Olympic Committee and served in CAVB Technical commission as president and also in the FIVB coaches’ commission until he passed away in February 2011.


He is recognized as one of the well-renowned leaders in African volleyball for his long service to his country and the continent at large. Through his years of knowledge and experience, And through his career, he ensured to play an active role in the volleyball community in Zone II and Africa.


Speaking at the meeting Dr Elwani joins others in prayers to the late volleyball champion, “Baba’s leadership skills are enthusiastically accepted, with his passion and commitment, he has made volleyball development in Africa a success,” Elwani said.


 “Baba Sy was my close friend and a brother to me. I was the first person to know about his health issue,” he said to his wife Madame Lika Cissé.


 Elwani added, “His tireless effort towards the development of volleyball is recognized and we will never be forgotten.”


“Baba Sy was my brother, a friend and a mentor. I worked with him at the CAVB and I had ever since reserved a great respect for him,” said the executive director of African Volleyball Confederation Howyda Mondy.


Speaking to the gathering Late Baba Sy’s wife Madame Lika Cissé  said her late husband’s  greatest successes are being the best caring father, a mentor and caregiver to his family, wife, children and grandchildren. Watching the lives of his children shaped with great sense of values, discipline and commitment, where they learned the values of sports and refinement of fair play, integrity and honesty.
