Tunisia Count Down to Womenís African Club Championship

 Monastir, Tunisia, April 4, 2017- The 2017 CAVB Women’s African club championship is set to kick off in colorful, energetic and distinctly African fashion with a dynamic Opening Ceremony in Monastir, Tunisia this Thursday.


 More than ten clubs from across Africa are expected to attend the ten- day tournament.  The event will mark the 27th anniversary of the games with competing teams strengthening training in preparation for the tournament.


Al Ahly of Egypt, organizers Carthage of Tunisia, Shams from Egypt, Prisons and Pipeline from Kenya, ARSU from Seychelles, University of Zimbabwe, Asec Mimosas of Ivory Coast among others are all aiming to be crowned queens of African volleyball when the first match goes up on Thursday at Ksar Hellal Jammel hall in Monastir, Tunisia.


Al Ahly are the most successful club in the championship history bragging with 8 titles winning it in 2016 to break that long time record held by Kenya Pipelines, despite that Kenya still remain top with winners by country stats with 13th title, 7 for Pipelines, 5 for Prisons and 1 for Telkom Kenya and followed by Egypt.


Asec, University of Zimbabwe, Ndejje University from Uganda, Arsu from Seychelles are all asking for the first time whiles the host Carthage also never win the championship though they came close in 2016 but lost to Al Ahly 3-2 in the final.


The Women's African Volleyball Clubs Championship is the most prestigious women's volleyball competition for clubs in Africa organized by CAVB since 1986.
