Ahly Egypt and GSP Algeria join quarterfinals at Women club champs - Day 5

2017 Women's African Club Championship- Day 5

 

Monastir, Tunisia, April 10 2017- Defending champions Ahly Egypt (Pool B) and Algerian favourites GSP (Pool C) joined the qualifiers to the quarterfinal of the 2017 Women's African Club Championship following their victories in Day 5 of the competition over Tunisia's Marsa and Rwandan Army in Monastir, Tunisia on Monday.

 

Early on Sunday 4 other teams confirmed second round tickets, namely organisers Carthage (Pool A), Kenya Pipeline (Pool C), Shams of Egypt and Tunisia's Sfaxien (Pool D) to leave only 2 remaining vacancies in the quarters line up to be determined in the 6th and final day of the preliminary round on Tuesday.

 

 The second ticket ion Pool A will be confirmed by the winner form the last match between Injis (Cameroon) and Ndejje (Uganda) beside the second ticket of Pool B which will be clear after the last two matches of the pool when Prisons (KEN) face University (ZIM) and Bejaia (ALG)            meet Ahly (EGY).

 

 Day 5 featured another victory for 0rganisers Carthage over Asec Mimosas of Cote d'Ivoire 3-0 (25-13, 25-8, 25-16) to top their pool with three straight victories. Carthage wins all there pool A matches starting with the opening against Ndejje, INJS and Asec.

 

In pool B, Bejaia got their first win the championship when they beat University of Zimbabwe 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-11). University of Zimbabwe are participating in the championship for the first time and still they are yet to win a game.

 

In another pool B showdown, defending championships Ahly beat Marsa of Tunisia 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-11). So far the Egyptian giants registered 3 wins beating Prisons, University of Zimbabwe and Marsa and play again against Bejaia to complete first round.

 

Army of Rwanda continues to search redemption in the competition following another defeat to GSP of Algeria 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-25) in pool C. GSP has now book qualification to the quarter finals.

 

Pool D featured Shams from Egypt ride over Sfaxien of Tunisia 3-0 (25-23, 25-10, 25-21), Shams who were through already to the quarters make sure victory was seal so as to top the pool, despite losing, Sfaxien also made it through with two wins against FAP and ARSU.
