GAF beat Interior to create history at Gambia Beach VB final

Gambia, August 6, 2017- The Women beach volleyball team of Gambia Armed forces "GAF" survived a brutal final to defend their title as they beat Interior 2-0 (21-12, 21-18) on Sunday at Pocoloco in the second edition of the National beach volleyball champions.



 With a new initiative to punish every single error Interior players could be seen wincing and grumbling at every small movement. The punishment regime had taken its toll on the police as GAF led 16-7 at the initial stages and went on to nail it at 21-12


 Fighting through this immense wall of mild discomfort Interior somehow warmed up and were ready to go and they played well to suspend the defending champions at 13-10. GAF came back wild and tough to win the second set 21-18 and put their name in volleyball hall of fame.


 In Men's final, it pits a new chapter in the Gambia volleyball history seeing zone two silver medalists Alieu Barry and Ebrima Jatta representing GAF beat young and promising Banjul Academy side 2-0 (21-11, 21-19). The first set was poor one for the young Banjul side as they lost it 21-11.


Shell shocked from the first set, Banjul knew that they had to put it behind them and get on positively with the next set. Wind and rain took it toll on the players but still the game proceeds to Impress some 100 of local fans.


 Banjul academy took an early lead and put much more pressure on the GAF players. With the score at 16all confidence were high and Alieu Barry who played at the finals of the continental cup in Tunisia used his experience to win his first National honor.
