2018 Youth African Games- Girls Finals

Egypt overcome Cameroon to capture gold at Youth African Games


 Alger, Algeria, July 23, 2018- Egypt girls won the 2018 Youth African Games gold medal after thrilling victory over fighting Cameroon girls 3-1 (25-22, 25-21, 24-26, 25-23) in the competition final at Ain Taya Hall in Alger, Algeria on Monday.


 The competition also doubles as Boys U19 African Nations Championship and qualifying to the 2019 FIVB World Championship of this age category.


 Egypt went through to lead 2-0 before they missed the crucial points of the third set allowing the fighting Cameroon players to narrow the score to 2-1. Cameroon continued pressure through the strong service and the tight block to lead 23-20 near to extend the match to tiebreak, but they committed two mistakes in the crucial time to allow Egypt to score 5 consecutive points to claim the victory 3-1.


 In the bronze medal match DR Congo surprised the home fans with a thrilling 3-2 (15-25, 25-19, 25-21, 22-25, 15-12) victory over Algeria in the bronze medal match of the 2018 Youth African games.


 RDC finished third to get their first ever Games Medal, While the home team Algeria ended fourth. 


 In the Ranking positions 5-6, new comers Gambia Boys upset the experienced Cameroon team in grueling five setter (25-17, 25-18, 21-25, 21-25, 15-10) in the 5th place match of Boys Youth African Games. Gambia concluded 5th, while Cameroon finished 6th.


Tunisia girls captured the 5th position at the 2018 Youth African Games following the deserved victory over Botswana 3-0 (25-12, 25-5, 25-14) in the ranking match. Tunisia concluded their participation in the 5th position leaving Botswana at the 6th place
