Tunisia and Egypt Derbies highlight the Men's African Club Championship semis

2015 Men's African Club Championship

 Sousse, Tunisia, March 14, 2015- A famous Tunisian Derby between the defending champions Esperance and the organizers Etoile Sportive du Sahel highlights the 2015 Men's African Club Championship semifinal to be held in the Olympic Hall in Sousse, Tunisia on Sunday at 17:00 local time.

 

 Beside the well known Tunisian Derby, the other semifinal features another All Egyptian Derby between 10 times African Champions Ahly and the new comers Somoha at 14:30 to make the final another frequent face off between the Tunisian and Egyptian volleyball.

 

 Tunisian and Egyptian clubs gained the supreme African club championship 15 times each out of 33 completed editions with only Algerian clubs wining the rest 3 editions.

 

 The Tunisian Derby is now one of the most famous in Africa as Esperance and Etoile du Sahel will play later this month for the Tunisian League title and then fight later in April for the Local Cup.

 

 Esperance had 4 titles under their name in 1994, 1998, 2000, 2014, while Etoile gained it twice in 2001 and 2002.

 

 On the other hand Ahly of Egypt who won 10 titles in 1980, 1983, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2010, 2011 overcame their arch rivals Zamalek 3-2 in the quarterfinal in what is named the most Famous Derby in Africa and had to overwhelm another Egyptian compatriots Somoha in their way to the final.

 

 Somoha team is the dark horses of this competition as they had a successful campaign of 6 match winning streak in their way to the semifinal in their first ever existence in this competition.
