Seychelles upset giants Senegal at Women's AA

2015 All Africa Games- Women Day 2

 Brazzaville, Congo, September 3, 2015- A thrilling victory for the new comers Seychelles against giants and African semifinalists Senegal 3-2 (25-17, 25-19, 23-25, 22-25, 18-16) highlighted the action in Day 2 of Women's competition of All Africa Games at Henry Elende Hall in Brazzaville, Congo on Thursday.

 

 The winners played a great game all through and showed fantastic action in Pool A of the competition. Egypt hardly overcame the shining Botswana team 3-0 (32-30, 25-18, 25-19), while 2015 African Nations bronze medallists Cameroon topped Cape Verde 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-12).

 

 Ghana and Egypt led Pool A with 3 points from 1-0 record, followed by Seychelles 2 points (1-0) and Senegal 1 point and Botswana and Congo 0.

 

 Cameroon, Nigeria and Kenya led Pool B with 3 points ahead of Algeria, Mozambique and Cape Verde 0.

 

Seychelles v Senegal 3-2 (25-17, 25-19, 23-25, 22-25, 18-16)

 

 Seychelles surprised African Nations semifinalists Senegal with a thrilling 3-2 (25-17, 25-19, 23-25, 22-25, 18-16) in Pool A in a match lasting 2 hours. After Seychelles led 2-0 with a lot of emerging show, Senegal came back using their experienced players to draw 2-2 before the exciting tiebreaker where Seychelles came through their experienced attacker Marielle Bonne who came as the match scorer with 29 points figuring the competition best  scoring performance so far. Jerina Bonne followed her with 15 points. Experienced Senegalese attacker Sow Binetou topped the losers with 27 points followed by Mareme Diagne 11. Seychelles showed a fantastic 12/9 dominance in ace services for the winners beside 7 stuff blocks.

 

Egypt v Botswana 3-0 (32-30, 25-18, 25-19)

 

Egypt fought for 83 minutes to overcome the resurgent Botswana team in Pool A. Botswana made a great pressure upon the experienced Egyptian players in the first set and made a great leap 13-4 to put their team in a good situation before Egypt's opposite spiker Aya Elshami led the Egyptian to hardly win the set 32-30 after Botswana missed 5 set points. Egypt then went through the second and third set to win the match in straight sets.

 

 Elshami led the winner's  scorers with 14 points, while promising attacker Tracy Chaba led the losers and match scorers with 17.

 

Cameroon v Cape Verde 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-12)

 

 Cameroon women overcame the sluggish start to upset Cape Verde 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-12) in 67 minutes. The winner controlled the match through their better blocks and services to lead 9/5 and 6/3 in both factors respectively.

 

 Stephanie Fotso led the winners with 8 points, while Bratriz Santos led the losers and match scorers with 10 points.
