Cameroon upset Kenya as Cap Verde marked first win at Women AAG

2015 All Africa Games- Women Day 4

 

 

Brazzaville, Congo, September 6, 2015- Cameroon women team were the queens of day 4 at Women's Volleyball competition at All Africa Games after the played the best of volleyball action beating giants Kenya 3-2 (25-27, 21-25, 25-25, 25-29, 15-9) in epic encounter at Henry Elende Hall in Brazzaville, Congo on Sunday

 

 The victory put the 2011 silver medallists ahead of Pool B with 2 victories and 5 points. Kenya became second with 4 points, while Algeria beat Nigeria 3-1 to raise to 3 points equal to the losers. Cape Verde fought in another five setter to overcome resurgent Mozambique 3-2 (27-25, 16-25, 25-23, 24-26, 15-6) and ranked 5th with 2 points ahead of Mozambique 1 point.

 

Cameroon v Kenya 3-2 (25-27, 21-25, 25-25, 25-29, 15-9)

 

 Cameroon rebounded back from 2 sets behind to take on struggling Kenyan team 3-2 (25-27, 21-25, 25-25, 25-29, 15-9) in 115 minutes of thrilling action. After Kenya had early dominance in the first and second sets, Cameroon came back with their skills to win two sets before they controlled the tiebreak in their way to clinch the grueling tiebreaker.

 

 Cameroon improved their win- loss ratio to 2-0 with 5 points, while Kenya dropped to 1-1 with 3 points.

 

 Cameroon's attacker Nana Tchoudjang led her team and match scorers with 19 points followed by Laeticia Moma 18. Esther Mwombe led the losers' attempts with 13 points followed by Edith Mukuvlani 10.

 

Cape Verde v Mozambique 3-2 (27-25, 16-25, 25-23, 24-26, 15-6)

 

 Cape Verde fought aggressively to beat  Mozambique 3-2 (27-25, 16-25, 25-23, 24-26, 15-6) in 122 minutes of exciting action. Beatriz Santos led the match and winner's scorers with 27 points, while Barilia Marilia led the loser with 24 points.

 

 Cape Verde set the first win to improve to 1-1, while Mozambique dropped to 0-2.

 

 After Cape Verde won narrowly the first set Mozambique team played their best led by Marilia to draw 1-1 and were near to win the third set which increased the match fever until the South African team draw 2-2, before Cape Verde finished the match in the best form.

 

Algeria v Nigeria 3-1 (21-25, 25-12, 25-13, 25-15)

 

 Algeria recovered from early shaky performance to beat Nigeria 3-1 (21-25, 25-12, 25-13, 25-15) in 106 minutes. Algeria recorded the first win to improve to 1-1, while Nigeria who won their first match against Mozambique dropped also to 1-1. After the Algerian team lost the first set they improved in all items to win three consecutive sets for the first win.

 

 Aicha Mezmat led the winners with 16 points including 2 stuff blocks and 4 aces. Mercy Promise led the Nigerian team with 17 points.
