2016 CAVB Women's Continental Cup- Day 2

 

 

 Abuja, Nigeria, April 15, 2016- Mauritius edge closer of representing Africa in the Olympics Games for the second consecutive time after earning a place in the Semifinals of the Women’s Continental Cup Final currently underway in Abuja Nigeria. The island nation beat Sierra Leone and Gambia to advance to the last four.

 

 There first triumph was against the Salone team, in which the 2012 Africa’s representatives suspended their opponent 2-0 and their exuberance continue afterwards when they beat beach volleyball newbies Gambia 2-0 to book a place against Rwanda.

 

Coming off an impressive victory on Thursday, Rwanda had established themselves as powerhouse in African beach Volleyball and the country is in the Semifinal of the Continental cup with a daunting task to face former Olympians Mauritius.  They swept aside Morocco 2-0 and went on to run riot over Namibia and eventually confirmed their place in the last four.

 

One of the rising nations in beach volleyball, Gambia dashed their hopes of making it through to the semis after conceding heavy defeat against Mauritius, The Gambia beat Ghana 2-0 but could not continue on their winning streak and their faith for a Olympic berth was faded, The Gambia women beach volleyball team could have been the first team sports from The Gambia to qualify to the Olympics, however the nation have to wait for the next Continental Cup Qualifications for the 2020 Olympics Games.

 

Host, Nigeria continues on their dominance fashion when they easily overcame Sierra Leone 2-0 in front of local fans. The African Champions are still yet to concede defeat in the tournament and whiles their performance continues to blossom, their hopes to Rio inch closer. There was also big wins for Egypt, after beating Mozambique and Namibia. The North Africans had now set a date with the Nigeria.

 

The winner of the finals will represent Africa at the Olympics Games in Rio.
