Monastir, Tunisia, April 10, 2017- Shams volleyball club from Egypt completed their group stage matches unbeaten in the 2017 women's African club volleyball championship after sweeping Sfaxien of Tunisia 3-0 (25-23, 25-10, 25-21) in Pool D at Mzali Hall in Monastir, Tunisia on Monday.
Shams finished their first round stage at the top of Pool D with a win- loss ratio of 3-0, while Sfaxien dropped to 2-1 to finish second and join the quarterfinals.
Shams started strong in the first set, with Nada Meawad leading the charge, after some trickery by her Shams was able to go up 21-18, prompting Sfaxien coach to call a timeout. Even though Sfaxien score few points Shams control the set to win 25-23.
Better floor defense by Shams started the second set, helping them to go up 4-0. The Egyptians continued to grind it out in the longer rallies to go up 23-8, and sealed it at 25-10.
Sfaxien opted to redouble their attacking process in the third set against a Shams side that always threatens. It all went downhill from there for the Egyptian side, as they keep focusing on floor coverage instead of attacking and wins the third set 25-21.
