Carthage, Shams Face ‘Moment Of Truth’ at Women's club Championship's final

15 April 2017

Monastir, Tunisia, April 15, 2017- The 2017 Women African Club Champs final will be the “moment of truth for Carthage of Tunisia and Shams from Egypt” when they meet on Sunday in Monastir, Tunisia to feature a brand new name in the golden podium of the competition.

The game is so much bigger than what happens on the field at MZALI on Sunday, and the outcome will ring into eternity.

The final will affect how Carthage and Shams see and conduct themselves on the continental stage.

Shams has assumed a leadership position in African volleyball after upsetting record holders Ahly 3-2 , but the organizers are not certain about how it wants to lead against this rejuvenated Shams side. With home support Carthage undoubtedly will influence that debate after beaten Prisons 3-1 in the semi final.

Both are on the brink of great joy, as none of them ever wins the competition. Carthage qualified to the semifinal fro the third year in a row but their best performance was the silver podium in 2016, while Shams qualified to the final spot for the first time in their history.

Carthage and Shams didn’t reach this point by mistake. They’ve been the best, most consistent teams at this championship, both won five out of five games and they deserve to play for the right to call themselves African champions.

The teams are fit, hungry and ready to perform in front of thousands of viewers. Carthage likely will curb its attacking instincts and take a more cautious approach, while Shams will be balanced as always. It should make for an open, but tactically intelligent, game in which the teams’ attacking stars will shine brightest.
