Kenya and Cameroon book semifinal tickets at Women's African Championship

2017 Women's African Nations Championship- Day 3

 

 

 Yaoundé, Cameroon, October 9, 2017- Defending champions Kenya and hosts Cameroon confirmed their semifinal tickets after they continued their victories at the 2017 Women's African Nations Championship to lead both preliminary pools at the end of Day 3 of the first round held at Palais des Sports in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

 

 The competition is also a World Championship qualifier as the top 2 teams in the continental championship confirm berths to the prestigious FIVB competition.

 

Cameroon rebounded on time to stop the Algerian comeback in the third set to mark their second victory over Algeria 3-1 (25-20, 25-9, 17-25, 25-10) in Pool A to lead with 6 points from a win- loss ratio of 2-0, ahead of Egypt who were in a rest day (1-0), while both Algeria and Botswana stayed winless.

 

 In Pool B Kenya played their best to overcome Congo RD 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-12) with the winners playing with their full capacity with the experienced players.

 

Senegal shocked heavy favourites Tunisia who represented Africa in the last World championship 3-1 (25-23, 25-19, 18-25, 25-22) in the most exciting competition's match so far.

 

 The competition resumes on Tuesday with three matches where Kenya face Tunisia in a crucial clash of Pool B, while Congo RD play Nigeria in the same pool. Pool A features a match between 3 time champions Egypt and the Afrin dark horses Botswana
