Congo, Libya through to quarterfinal spot at Men's African Champs

2017 Men's African Nations championship- Day 3 



 Cairo, Egypt, October 24, 2017- Congo RD and Libya clinched the qualification tickets to the quarterfinal of the 2017 Men's African Nations championship to raise the qualified teams to 6 leaving only 2 slots to be determined after Pool C last match that will be held on Wednesday to conclude the preliminary round.


 Early on Monday 4 teams; Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria and Rwanda booked their tickets to the knockout stage


 The third day of the competition showed highly exciting moments specially in Pool B when the winless Kenya set their first victory against the strong Libyan team 3-2 (16-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-21, 15-12) in grueling encounter. However the Libyan team clinch the second position of the Pool after leaders Tunisia through the set ratio which came to the Libyan side after they draw with Ghana in 1-2 win- loss ratio. In the same pool, Tunisia achieved the third victory in a row against Ghana 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-15).


 After Egypt led Pool A, Congo RD clinched the second qualification ticket to the quarters after they dismiss Niger 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-23).


 In Pool C Morocco came from a set behind to win three consecutive sets in their way to achieve first victory over Nigeria 3-1 (24-26, 25-20, 25-17, 25-22). The pool situation will be determined after the postponed match between Nigeria and Cameroon to be played on Wednesday.


 In Pool D Algeria extract their power to down Rwanda 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-21), but both teams already confirmed their slots in the second round. Botswana achieve their first win against Chad 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-22), as the winners came third and the losers fourth of the Pool.


 The 2017 Men's African championship doubles also as 2018 World Championship qualifiers where the top three African teams book their tickets to represent Africa in the FIVB Prestigious championship
